Sweet deal! Now I want one..... Depending on how easily portable the fire ring will be that I'm going to have my dad make, I really am considering bringing extras. Maybe a few to give away or I have a feeling I could do some sweet trading with those. I was thinking just have him cut a bunch of sheets with holes on both ends and put some sort of screws or whatever in to keep them in a circle when we get there?? Haha... I don't know! I still have to talk to him about it.

Sooo... I finally have the fire ring deal figured out! They will not have fire rings for sale or to rent there. You need to bring your own (no size limits or requirements as long as its deep enough in case it gets windy) or you can bring a shovel and dig a hole and place rocks around it.
Haha, I'm totally just digging a hole!

LOL - you dig a hole, I'll bring the rocks? Actually - are we still up for having a forum camping area at Sallie? That just might work then!

Hahah! Yeah, if people are willing to camp in the same spot, there'll be a camping area. I still have to figure it out with the people I'm going with though and see if they want to be a part of that.. but so far its a go. By the way (this is completely off-subject, lol!).. I was checking out your photography and just wanted to say that I love it!!! Have you ever heard of Jim Brandenburg? You will love him if you haven't... He's from Minnesota and has a really nice gallery in Ely that I went to after 10k last year. He has also done a lot of work for Nat'l Geographic. www.jimbrandenburg.com Check out the northwoods photos!

Plan on doing a camping set up run through next weekend. Getting ready!! Recommend it because it makes life much easier when you get to your camping spot.

Hehe - did that this weekend, camping up the north shore (Duluth to Grand Portage and back.) All I'll need for the fest is more food and more fun things. Do you think I can just grab my 'camping pack' or will they confiscate the sharp things I leave in there (knife and hatchet)?
@sugar - Brandenburg has been my favorite local photographer for many years now - I'm VERY flattered my pics made you think of him in any capacity. I've been to his gallery in Ely a few times, but the prices of any of his framed prints makes me cry.
I definitely wouldn't mind camping next to a few forum people, if others are still up for it. Though you're all still strangers, you're not COMPLETE strangers. It'd make me feel a bit more comfortable, and I wouldn't mind sharing things (booze, a fire, clothesline, etc etc etc.)

Because it has been raining here for 3 weeks, have not done set up yet. This weekend is going to be nice, but friends are busy...

I know the prices, ahh!! We bought this sweet book when we were there from when he stayed in the northwoods for however many days... 70? I can't remember and the book isn't with me at the moment. I'd have to say nature photography is one of my favorite things - the only thing I'd call a hobby of mine, so I get excited when I see other people who are really good at it! I would take the sharp things out of your pack... I think they'd take them away otherwise. If no one else in Lake Sallie ends up wanting to camp by eachother, you're always welcome to come hang out by us!!

I still need to set up my tent and make sure everything is all good to go.. I think I may do that next weekend. I was planning on doing it when I went to Phish at Alpine but we ended up having to drive back home the same night....
