How long is everyone planning on being on the road to get to Detroit Lakes and where are you coming from? It'll take me around 8hrs from Green Bay, WI.. not too long of a drive. I'll be stopping in Minneapolis to visit my sister on the way and rest up too!

We, in our infinite wisdom, are driving from CT. Making a nice vacation out of it seeing as we have never been to this part of the country! It will be a two day drive each way. Someone in our party (you know who you are) doesn't like to fly but thats OK, we like to the road trip aspect of it too. A few days to check out the local area will be fun also.

That would be so much fun!! I always wanted to do a long road trip like that... you will love it in Minnesota, its my favorite place to be - in fact, I'm moving there in a year or two! Detroit Lakes is beautiful, I've been going out there in July (my sister has a cabin 10min away from Soo Pass) for about 12 years.

In CT there is Gathering of the Vibes that we considered going to but it is the same weekend as 10K and they have not announced any bands as of yet. Why go local when we can go half way across the country instead? Haha.

This is our first year going to 10KLF and I am so excited!!! We're driving from just east of Toronto, Ontario. Google Maps is showing about an 18 hour drive. We're going to make a road trip out of it - I've already started planning my list of places I want to stop on the way! Hoping to find others driving from our area that we can hook up with on the road and make it a real stylin' road trip!
I have a question though - What time should we be shooting to get to Detroit Lakes so that we get a good choice of spot?

Hehe, someone crazy like us! Our drive is 23 hours. We drove 18 to Roo. That was fun. We left at 3am and got stuck in traffic for almost an hour on a bridge about 20 minutes from home. We found other people going to Bonnaroo in the traffic tho! After a few hours it was like a whole convoy of us from a few different states. We would see the same people over and over again at the rest stops. It made the drive a lot more interesting!

If you're coming from Ontario definitely take the trip down through northern Minnesota. You'd be hard pressed to find a more scenic drive. It's amazing.
the best time to get in line at soo pass is as early as possible lol. We usually go there at about midnight the night before, and sleep and chill there until the doors open. this ensures you get the primo camping spots. If you get there any later than 6 am you'll be stuck in about a 2-3 hour wait. But the wait itself is a blast since everybody is just waiting on the road listening to music and getting the party started!
to anyone who's coming to the fest for the first time, whether it be from MN, CT or Canada, be ready for one of the greatest festival experiences of your life.

For sure go through northern Minnesota, its the most beautiful drive ever! Haha, just thinking about that makes me happy. After 10k last year, my boyfriend and I drove up to the Boundary Waters (Ely, MN) to visit his grandma and all I can say is wow. We spent the day at Burntside Lake too, his aunt has a cabin right down the road from John Cusak (spelling?). I think I'm going back there every summer! ;D
As for getting in line at Soo Pass.. I agree - anywhere between midnight and like 6am is a good time if you want to get a great spot and not wait in line long.. but again, waiting in line is fun there too!

Ohh forgot, has anyone had any trouble with the Police being in line on the side of the road that early? Or any other problems?
