220 miles for me, so only about 3 and some odd hours. From the sound of it, seems like ill be hitting the road at about midnight. : )

Well Sprunkn7, here's another person in for the road trip. Me & some friends are taking the 27 hour drive from Southern California. I can't wait & am looking forward to the road trip and all the adventure along the way. I am SOOOOO glad I joined this forum for many reasons, but I had not idea you could park on the road so early. Thanks for the info! We'll have to make sure we get there in time to get in line!
We're planning on leaving Saturday & taking the 4 days to drive through the desert of CA and NV, Utah, Idaho, Montana, N Dakota, and then MN! Or - we could drive through WY & S. Dakota. Any suggestions?

Holy cow, what a long trip! *laugh*
As for the drive, my recommendation is going through Wyoming and South Dakota. Pretty country, especially in Dakota - you get the Black Hills and the Badlands there (depending on your route, anyway!)

I figure this is the best board to post this. Went to AAA this week and got a Triptik all mapped out for our 3 day drive! I'm so excited!!!!!! The lady mapped our route with pottie stops, places to eat, places to stay and gave us a BAG full of maps for all the states we will be driving through, PLUS a cool travel book for Minnesota ALL FOR FREE! AAA is my new hero! It's all starting to come together and I can't wait to get on the road! woo hoo!!!

If the good folks at AAA routed you through Nebraska on I-80 let me know. The barren plains of western Nebraska are where I grew up, and I can be sure to tell you what to see and (more importantly) what to avoid. A three-day roadtrip...now that's something to be excited for.

Hey Panic! We weren't routed through Nebraska on the way there, we're going through Nevada, Utah, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, Minnesota. But it's always a possibility on the way back. But...barren plains of Nebraska vs. Black Hills of South Dakota. I'm thinking South Dakota might win on that one. But I'll let you know if we change our minds, which is a strong possibility!

I have AAA and never even thought of getting help from them Great idea. I just know, have the card cause we broke down on the way home from Toronto and they did the tow. That stunk. Starting to get ready too. Car check up and all that business.

Ha. The folks at AAA aren't stupid. That route is far more scenic than hundreds of miles (literally) of corn fields. Montana and the Black Hills win, hands down. I like my home state, but not enough to recommend driving through it.
